Description
VERY EARLY SENIOR TINKERTOY, THE TEN THOUSAND WONDER BUILDER, in superb condition from “The Toy Tinkers, Evanston, ILL, U.S.A.” Created and launched ca 1914 by Charles Pajeau and Robert Petit , this classic construction toy first experienced slow growth in popularity, but by 1918, over 2.5 million sets were sold. Red spools were added in 1932; by the 1940’s Tinker Toys were ubiquitous in every American household with children, and up until the 1960’s, the company averaged over 2.5 million sales annually. In 1985 Tinkertoy was acquired by Playskool. This is an early 1930’s vintage round canister with green paper wrap and graphics, metal lid, with contents for hard to find “SENIOR TINKERTOYS” set , of approximately 170 pcs, including the cardboard windmill blades and spool of string. Instructions, if originally included, are no longer present. Doubling as a mailing tube, the canister label graphic includes an address label with "FROM" and TO". The box text indicates it is similar to the MOTORIZED set (as offered in 1931) except without the motor. This predates the more common mid 1940’s vintage senior windmill set with similar name in the more modern red white and blue box / can. One located on the internet in the North Vancouver museum is described as: Description: "Senior Tinkertoy" The Ten Thousand Wonder Builder. Heavy card cylindrical container with metal base and separate metal threaded cap; top of cylinder is threaded on the card; colourful green paper label with red, black & white printing and diagrams. A terrific early set in superb condition for the discriminating toy collector. Buyer adds $8.00 shipping, more for priority or insurance if desired. Check, MO or Paypal.
