This is an original, vintage, bent plywood "Rocking Beauty", Red Ball, Rocking Hobby Horse, designed in the early 1950's by Gloria Caranica for Creative Playthings of Princeton, NJ. It measures 25" from front to back, 12" wide, and 19" tall. The backside of the seat-stop bears the wood-burned signature logo of Creative Playthings. It shows evidence of use by a child; the underside shows a few white and green crayon marks. If it originally was lacquer coated, it is now largely stripped down to the natural wood. The red ball has not been retouched, and is not splitting, as one photo close-up might suggest. On the underside, where the top arc passes thru the bottom arc... there is some minor chipping to the plywood, as shown in photos #9 & 10. Please be sure to click on the photos for closer, more detailed views. The wood appears a bit more washed out than it really is, due to the sunlight exposure while photographing it.
