Description
Hand Cut Puzzle #320 - Cats and Hats #320 Cats and Hats (619 pieces) ~ This is a handmade, hand cut, created by me, one of a kind wooden jigsaw puzzle! ~ If you would like to be notified whenever I post new puzzles for auction, click here! Cats and Hats is a unique and colorful irregular edge puzzle. It is large and will be fun to work. There are lots of details in the print. A couple of longhair kittens are sitting on a striped hat box. There are flowers and ferns in the print as well as a variety of colorful hats and other objects in the background (vase, plates, etc) I won a first place blue ribbon for this puzzle in the county fair this summer (Aug 2008) and my entry id and ribbon will be included with this auction! The frame was made merely to display the puzzle at the fair and not as a long term display piece (it has no glass, but was simply shrink wrapped). But if the winning bidder has an interest in it, I will include it with the auction, however it will be shipped separately and an additional shipping fee will apply.. There is an average of 2.5 pieces per square inch. Puzzle has been handcut from 1/4" 5-ply Birch, a very strong wood that will last for generations to come! See enlarged side view below. I cut this puzzle by hand, carefully guiding the wood into the thin blade of a scroll saw, cutting off one piece at a time, using blades with a thickness of just 0.008! Approximate size is 14"X 18 1/2" There are 25 figurals which include 11 letters as well as my "key" signature piece (signed, numbered, and dated on the back). One is enhanced with an interior cut (teapot). The kitten catching the butterfly is an interactive figural. The irregular edge will make the puzzle very tricky to solve, because there are no straight edges to put together first. You will have to work from the inside out. There is just a little Color Line Cutting in the puzzle. Puzzle was cut in my Standard Cut and interlocks well overall, but not every piece is fully interlocking. There is a little color-line cutting in the puzzle. Cutting went well and I ran into no voids or other problems with the wood. In order for me to mount this print for display, I secured it with tiny pieces of removeable blue putty on the back of occasional pieces around the outside edge, as well as the figurals. When I received it back, I disassembled the puzzle, removing the putty of course, and counting the pieces, taking pictures, etc. I did not resand the puzzle and on some of the pieces where the putty was, you can see a faint outline of where the putty was (it is not blue, but appears as a darker circle of wood). Maybe the wood absorbed some moisture in that spot and it hadn't yet dried or maybe its something else, but I thought I'd mention it just in case it mattered to anyone. Look in the photo above, on the two pieces near the bottom, above the "H" and above the "A" in "cats." It is a faint remnant of where the putty had been. Shown above: pile of pieces! Are you up to the challenge of solving it? Shown below: counting the pieces! This is going to be a fun one to work. There are many different colors and patterns shown in the print. Cats and Hats! An especially unique, one of a kind puzzle! How many award winning puzzles do you have in your collection? Winning bidder will also receive my entry id and ribbon included with the puzzle! Puzzle will come disassembled inside a beautiful wood box with sliding lid similar to the one shown below. Made from solid pine (sides) and 3-ply Birch (lid and bottom), stained and varnished. My label is affixed to the outside of the box with the puzzle title, number, and piece count. Note: This puzzle contains small pieces which may present a choking hazard to children. It has been designed for adults or older children and is not meant for young children. Payment: Accepted payments include check, money order, or PayPal.
