James Class: Spring-Coiled Toy Color: Aged Weight: 70t, 80c Size: 8-1/2 × 11 in. Type: Unframed This listing includes: - 9 Historical Documents (USPTO) - 1 Lithographic Art Print This document reads: "My Invention relates to toys primarily intended for amusement of children, but also for family use as parlor games and the like, to provide a helical spring toy which will walk on an amusement platform..." Richard T. James Background: In 1946, a patent was issued to Richard T. James for his invention of the Slinky Toy. Like Silly Putty, the Slinky was an accidental by-product of World War II research and development. While working in his laboratory to develop a set of springs, James accidentally knocked one of his springs off the shelf. Instead of flopping in a heap onto the floor, the spring "stepped" in a series of arcs from the shelf, to a stack of books, to a countertop, and finally to the floor, where it re-coiled itself and stood upright. This is a museum-quality patent reproduction; obtained directly from the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). The drawing and specification sheet(s) are printed onto premium, acid-free, lignin-free parchment paper; which reproduces the authentic look and feel of the original document. This listing also includes a lithographic art print. The print (as depicted above) is sized and ready to frame. We accept PayPal, Money Order, Cashiers Check, and Personal Checks.
