In my late father's attic all these years, Smokey Joe (approx. 8 inches tall) is in terrific working condition.  Check out the video below and you'll see he has a powerful step!  The ladder has gotten slightly tweaked, so it will need to be straightened if Joe is to make it to the top of the stairs unassisted (in the video, you will see me eventually holding the top of the ladder to make it "flatter" so Joe can continue climbing.)
